Kathy L. Fortner, EdS, LPC, CCMHC is a Licensed Nationally Board Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor with both a Master’s Degree in Counseling from WV Graduate College and an Ed. S. Degree in Counseling from Marshall University Graduate College. She taught in the Marshall University Graduate College Counseling Department as a Adjunct Faculty member with specializations in Psychopharmacology, Human Appraisal, and Integrated Model of Mental Health and Medical care. Ms. Fortner has been awarded the Board Certified Coach certification through NBCC, May, 2012. Additionally, she also is a Distance Certified Coach (DCC), April, 2012. Ms. Fortner has again been through the recertification for three Boards, CCMHC, BCC, and DCC for another five year recertification process, as of 2017. Through the certifications of extensive training and board examinations, a counselor or coach can provide quality services to their clients, whether with counseling in SC, or through various types of coaching both nationally and internationally. Ms. Fortner had completed the requirements as a Licensed Professional Counseling Supervisor (LPC-S). She provided supervision to Post Masters Counselors seeking licensure in South Carolina until September 2015. She retired her license at that time. Additionally, Ms. Fortner completed the requirements and attained certification as a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) effective October, 2012. She has been continually a Board Certified Clinician since 2002. As of 2017, Ms. Fortner was re-certified in all of her boards for another five years.
She is a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA); SCALPC – South Carolina Association of Licensed Professional Counselors previously served (2006-2010) as their Secretary and Public Relations Liaison; National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC); and International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). She voluntarily served on the Horry County CISM team associated with the Horry County Fire and Rescue professionals.
Before moving to South Carolina, Ms. Fortner had a private practice in WV, and also served on the WV Licensed Professional Counselors Board as Board Member at Large and Editor of the organization’s newsletter, the Courier.
When she isn’t working, you may find her enjoying the beach areas, ballroom and latin dancing, spending time with friends and family, traveling, or listening to local music and performances. Fishing, boating, and competitive ballroom dancing are her past times when time and opportunity presents itself.
